Basic facts:
as listed in the media and by Windsor Regional Hospital

The Hospitals

-
Construction of a new 1.6 million sq. foot, 10-storey, Single-Site Acute Care Hospital.
-
Essentially the same services will be offered. Although it has been implied some services will be expanded partly as a result of new facilities, the limited caseload numbers reduce the likelihood of new services being added from a practical and affordable prespective
-
$1.7 billion or $1000/ square foot for the new hospital itself. $385 million more for satellite facilities.
-
500 acute beds are expected on the first day open, roughly the same as currently reported, with possible expansion for up to 700 beds. By 2031 (a few years after opening) 639 acute beds are planned.

Both of the current hospitals Met and Ouellette will be closed and replaced by the single site hospital located on County Rd 42 and Concession 9 by the Airport.

-
“The demolition of the existing Met Campus and transfer of a clean site to the City of Windsor.”
-
“Redevelopment of the Ouellette Campus at 1030 Ouellette Ave to support outpatient mental health services currently offered at the HDGH Transitional Stability Centre, Chronic Disease Management and a Community hub.” The redevelopment includes demolition of the current buildings except for the parking garage and cost $146 million.
The Tayfour Campus

-
“Construction and redevelopment at the existing HDGH Tayfour Campus on Prince Rd including a 60-bed acute mental health wing and the expansion of diagnostic imaging and the addition of dialysis services.”1
-
The Tayfour campus will remain as a chronic care hospital, and the expansion will cost $106 million.

Leamington Hospital (Erie Shores Healthcare) has been reported to remain open and continue to primarily serve 75,000 people on the south shore including the area of Leamington, Kingsville, Wheatley, Pelee Island, Essex, Harrow and parts of Lakeshore.
However, a 2009 report (Small Community Hospital Emergency Department Study Final Report by the Hayes Group) said Leamington’s hospital must be allowed to maitain a 24/7 ER as long as there is only a two lane highway to the two hospitals in Windsor which are currently not on the outskirts making travel time too long.

The Urgent Care Centre (UCC)

-
“Construction of a new 4-storey, 80,000 square ft. Urgent Care and Satellite Facility at the former Grace Hospital Site located at University Ave. and Crawford Ave. The facility will include a CT scanner, chronic disease management, laboratory services and a pharmacy.”
-
The UCC will cost $133 million.
-
“The UCC is not meant for patients with life-threatening issues. The UCC will not accept patients by ambulance….The UCC is open approximately 18 hours-a-day (peak volume) with the ability to extend hours if necessary.”

Note: As of May 2018 the details have not officially changed. However there have been reports in the media that part of the Ouellette campus would be saved and used for Urgent Care rather than the former Grace site. Ouellette campus could also include some day surgeries, but so far nothing close to a hospital replacement has been described.
